Legislation in NY

Assembly bill 1821, introduced by Assemblyman John McEneny, and Senate bill 5153, introduced by Senator Frank Padavan, would ban the production of foie gras in New York State, where Hudson Valley Foie Gras, one of only two foie gras facilities in the country, operates. The bills would amend the state animal cruelty law to make it "unlawful to force-feed a bird, by hand or machine, for the purpose of fatty enlargement of the bird's liver."

Both SB 5153 and AB 1821 are stuck in committee, awaiting further action. Legislators need to hear from people, especially New York State residents urging them to support these important bills and to pass them out of committee.

If you live in New York, please contact the head of the Assembly Agriculture committee and the chair of the Senate Rules committee to urge them to support these bills. Their contact information is below. Please also contact your legislators. Find contact information for them at http://ga0.org/indefenseofanimals/home.html
